Left Hook is Pat Miller, Tim Moreland, Tim Herman, Joe Furnari and Alan Ernesto Phillips. They hail from Redding and are no strangers to the Festival scene. Maybe you saw them last year at the Sun Dial Music Festival? They have a great local following and play a unique blend of World Jazz Jam music. Brady is a highly accomplished seasoned jazz singer who has performed at festival, on cruise ships and night clubs throughout the country. And she's also a resident of Weaverville. Her swinging vocal style will be accompanied by guitarist John Tieleman covering the Great American Songbook and more. You don't want to miss this wonderful opening act. Al and Tyler are guitar monsters. They have both played in a number of different band and play a wide variety of music and styles. Currently they are on a sweet Latin thing playing beautiful Latin and Brazilian grooves. The Gypsy Jazz sound of 'Mood Swing' has been added to this years Festival after the cancellation of  'Chico Ballet Flamenco". Pam and Robert Laughlin bring a wonderful duo of classical guitar and clarinet playing hot vintage jazz and Spanish  Choro from the 20's through the 40's explore this musical time period on three continents.

Simultaneous with the development of North American jazz as played by Ellington, Basie, Armstrong, et.al., Europe was defining jazz its own way with the likes of gypsy jazz guitar phenomena Django Reinhardt and Stefane Grappelli. Meanwhile Brazil was experiencing its own Renaissance with the explosion of a pre-Samba street music called choro.

Mood Swing will open the show and dedicates itself to the faithful recreation of the international music of that great era.

Chico based Bogg has been performing throughout the area playing modern jazz and as well as composing and  arranging a wide variety of projects from Prince's Purple Rain to the Great American Songbook standards.  Bogg will be playing at two of the Nor-Cal Jazz Festival events this year; the free Community Concert in the downtown Chico City Plaza on April 17th from 6-8 p.m. and at Old City Hall in Redding on the 18th.

Allison Scull and Victor Martin's unusual collaborative style--singer-songwriter plus saxophone--connects grown-ups and little people alike.

Together they create a fusion of musical forms uniquely their own. They blend roots music — a fusion of jazz, folk, blues, a little funk, originals and some jazz standards laced with some French lyrics (Allison learned French where she grew up in Belgium). 
As a duo, Allison and Victor have shared the stage with The Blind Boys of Alabama, Tuck and Patti, Walter "Wolfman" Washington, Craig Chaquico, Shana Morrison, Archie Lee Hooker, Acoustic Alchemy and blues legend John Hammond. Their constant performance schedule has contributed to their growing fan base on the West Coast. Their music has also struck a chord in the wine country of Northern California and Oregon as well as the festival circuit. Mostly performing as a duo, they have also developed a show with a stellar array of musicians.

Delbert is a master of the keys; piano, organ and Hammond B-3. He's also an accomplished arranger and composer current working with three different groups, The Delbert Bump Hammond B-3 Trio, The Bump / Yasinitsky Quintet and The Bump / Yaasinitsky Latin Project. Delbert has also been a long time educator and plays throughout Northern California with his different ensembles.  We are honored to have The Delbert Bump Hammond B-3 Trio with us on April 19 in the beautiful Sierra Nevada Big Room. One of the hippest bands in Northern California, The Bumptet brings a exciting mix of progressive jazz, fusion and funk reminiscent of the legendary Bassist aco Pastorius. Last year they performed at the Sierra Nevada Big Room show and will be playing at the Free Community Concert in the downtown Chico City Plaza on Friday April 17,  6 - 8 p.m..

The Bumptet consist of Arlyn Anderson on Guitar, Barry Eldridge on  Drums,  Andre Fylling on  Keys, Jason Galbraith on  Sax, EWI and Jonathan Stoyanoff on  Bass. The Bumptet will be performing with Bogg on the 17th. 

The CHARLES VALONA TRIO has performed throughout Northern California for the past decade, performing Jazz, Pop and Latin music. The Trio, which consists of Charles Valona on guitar, vocals and percussion, Bruce Calin on acoustic bass and Dan Kinkle on drums and percussion. The Charles Valona Trio will be playing on Saturday April 18 in Old City Hall in Redding. Tickets are just $12.00 advanced and $15.00 at the door for an excellent evening of America's music, Jazz. join the show will be Eric Peter and Ryan Dart and Bogg.  

Local jazzman and pianist Jim Schmidt is presenting 'The Music of Duke Ellington & Billy Strayhorn' at the Chico Women's Club on Sunday March 22. Joining Jim on Steinway Piano will be the fabulous Larry Peterson on Guitar, multi- instrumentalist Greg D'Augelli on Saxophone, Clarinet and Flute, Bassist extraordinaire, Jonathan Stoyanoff, the Legendary Lew Langworthy on drums and an array of Vocalists; Lisa Valentine, John Mahoney, Lise Welch and Kelly Houston .  This evening will also be a fund raiser for the renovation of the Chico Women's Club wonderful Steinway Piano.

 Jim has played with a number of bands over the years in a wide variety of projects. His current is 'The Groovediggers' will be playing the Big Room on April 19 as well.  You can catch Jim on 'Facets Of Jazz' on the second Tuesday of the month doing his Jazz Radio Program at 9:00 a.m. on 90.1 FM or at kzfr.org.

The incredibly talented, Eric Peter has been performing professionally for over 35 years. Utilizing both regular and seven stringed guitars, Eric has performed on countless stages throughout Northern CA in every style imaginable. A two time CAMMIE award winner (Chico Area Music Awards. One for jazz and one as “Best Guitarist”), critics have described his playing as “Flawless” (Chico News and Review) and “Phenomenal” (Chico Enterprise Record). Jazz Connection Magazine writes, "His lyrical and rhythmical guitar artistry holds the sound together to create an exciting montage of fantastic music!" Holding both a Bachelor of Arts and Master’s Degree in Music from CSU, Chico, Eric plays solo gigs (demonstrating his mastery of the loop machine), leads his own bands, and lends his guitar mastery to various jazz musicians all over the area, including Charlie Robinson, Rocky Winslow, Greg D’Augelli, Jonathan Stoyonoff, Holly Taylor, Susan Schrader, Shigemi Minetaka, Chuck Epperson Band, Hot Flash and many, many more. 

Joining Eric on April 18 in Old City Hall, Redding will be Ryan Dart. It will be a night of hot jazz guitars trading licks and blending melodies. 

The Dave Elke Trio will be opening the Festival in the beautiful Sierra Nevada Big Room on Sunday April 19th. The trio will be playing a cool west coast style of jazz featuring multi-instrumentalist Greg DiAugelli and the fabulous young drummer Robert Delgardo. Dave is a local favorite who has performed in a wide variety of musical styles and is also a very accomplished instructor and audio engineer.
